Assembly Planning Internship at MINI in Oxford, UK (2017-2018)

2017
Experience Abroad

As an intern at MINI in Oxford, I had the incredible opportunity to work with Ross Krambergar, an assembly line worker at BMW who had a vision to create a digital twin of the entire MINI production plant using the game engine Unreal. Working alongside Ross, I was able to see firsthand the impact that technology can have on the manufacturing process. Ross’s idea to create a digital twin was to improve the efficiency of the production plant by allowing employees to virtually test out different scenarios and configurations before implementing them in real life.

Under Ross’s guidance, I assisted in the initial stages of the project by helping to gather data and create 3D models of the various components of the production plant. It was amazing to see how the Unreal engine brought these models to life, allowing us to visualize and test out different scenarios. One of the most significant aspects of this internship was the opportunity to learn from Ross’s experience and knowledge in the manufacturing industry. His passion for using technology to improve processes was contagious, and I found myself constantly inspired by his dedication and drive.

Overall, my internship at MINI and the opportunity to work with Ross on his digital twin project has been a truly valuable and enlightening experience. It has not only broadened my understanding of the manufacturing industry but has also shown me the potential for technology to revolutionize the way we work. I am grateful for the chance to have been a part of this exciting project and for the guidance and mentorship provided by Ross.
